Strong Finish Not Enough To Overcome Sloppy Start
An effort-filled third period wasn’t enough to recover from a sluggish first forty minutes Tuesday night as the Roanoke Rail Yard Dawgs defeated the Storm in their first ever meeting.
Roanoke scored two in the first and two in the second to create a comfortable cushion heading into the final frame. Brian Rowland, Steve Mele, Cal Miska and Michael Crowley record tallies for the Rail Yard Dawgs in the win.
John Scully got Quad City on the board with an unassisted goal at 13:46 of the second period. The score for Scully is his eleventh of the season.
The Storm found their legs in the third and outshot the visitors 11-4, owning the majority of offensive zone time. Al Graves capitalized off a stretch pass from the newest member of the Storm, Alex Basey, and sniped home the Storm’s second goal of the night to make it 4-2. For Basey the assist is his first career SPHL point and with the goal Al Graves has broken his single season scoring record with 14 games remaining in the regular season. The Storm could not rally anymore offense in behind Rail Yard Dawgs netminder Jacob Caffery and fell by a score of 4-2.
