Storm Battle, Fall Short Versus Ice Bears

The Storm fell 5-3 Friday night at the TaxSlayer Center versus the Knoxville Ice Bears in front of a great crowd of over 4000.

The visitors scored first at 13:28 of the opening period and held the 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

Tommy Tsicos and John Scully brought the Storm back and gave them a 2-1 lead in the first seven minutes of the second.  Tsicos gobbled up a rebound and blew it passed Michael Santaguida to tie the game at the 2:45 mark and Joh Scully stayed hot with the go-ahead goal 4:08 later.

Doug Rose brought Knoxville back even with a shot from the point that pinballed passed Peter Di Salvo and with 48 seconds left in the period Stefan Brucato got the lead back in the bad guys hands on the power-play.

Leading 3-2 to start the third, the Ice Bears added goal number four on the night just 42 seconds in and appeared to have zapped the life out of the TaxSlayer Center and the team that calls it their home.

But the Storm didn’t lay down and proceeded to dominate the final fifteen of the period.  Quad City out-shot Knoxville 23-5 in the last frame of the game and finally broke through to make it a one-goal game when Skyler Smutek netted his second goal of the season to make it a one score contest with just 3:39 left to go.  Quad City kept pushing but couldn’t catch a break, or a bounce, and saw an ENG end their comeback effort and set the final score at 5-3.

The Storm are back to get some revenge tomorrow night at 7:00.  We’ll see you then!
