Storm Start Streak, Down Ice Flyers
The Quad City Storm started their first winning streak in franchise history Friday night at the TaxSlayer Center by beating the Pensacola Ice Flyers 4-1.
Al Graves started the party for the Storm, after missing three games, by crashing the net and deflecting a pass from Tyler Minx behind Ice Flyer’s net minder Brian Billet.
Joe McKeown tied Mitch Mueller for the team lead in goals when he snuck his fourth of the season under the right arm of Billet, putting the Storm up 2-0.
Pensacola got on the board six seconds into their first power-play chance of the night to crack the goose egg but would not score again. Peter Di Salvo shutdown Pensacola for the second straight game. “The Mad Dog” made 31 saves on 32 shots and provided his team with the confidence to stay aggressive and create extra opportunities in the offensive zone.
Skyler Smutek added some insurance with a center-point bomb at 11:57 of the third to make it 3-1 and Sean Kacerosky banked in an empty netter to etch the final score in stone, 4-1.
Quad City is back at the TaxSlayer Center tomorrow night versus the Evansville Thunderbolts. Tickets are still available at QuadCityStorm.com.
