Penalties Plague Storm In First Loss

The Quad City Storm lost for the first time this season Friday night vs. Peoria 6-1.

Lane King started the scoring for the Rivermen at 5:41 of the first period and Will Smith made it 2-0 thirteen minutes later.  The Storm’s rivals added on with a three-goal second period and single tally from Ben Blasko in period three.  Blasko finished with one goal and a pair of assists.

The solo score for the Storm was finished by Ben Boukal on a wicked snapshot that sailed past Stephen Klein in the third to stick the final score at 6-1.  Klein made 28 saves on 29 shots.

Penalties plagued the Storm during the first two periods.  In the first 40-minutes of hockey, 14 were spent down a man; two power-play goals were scored by the Rivermen during that stretch.

A bleak night for the home team was uplifted after the game when hundreds of young Storm fans trick-or-treated around the perimeter of the ice, collecting candy from all the players and going home happy, despite seeing the first loss of the season.

The Storm are back in action Friday in Peoria and will try to play spoiler in the Rivermen’s home opener.  Any fans not making the trip will get to see their favorite hockey team back at the TaxSlayer Center on Saturday November 3rd.   The first 1000 fans get a Storm cooler sponsored by MetroLink and the Storm is helping Goodwill kickoff Red Kettle season with disco night!  Head to your local Goodwill and snag a pair of bellbottoms or psychedelic swag and come groove the night away with the Quad City Storm.
